Director of Business Development – Alex, Thermaflex
“Very thought provoking and useful to discover my own unique strengths and how my strengths and leadership behaviours are perceived and rated by others (360° feedback). Also the concept of strengths in overdrive, and how to mitigate performance risks is very useful, I’ve gained some great insights. Kitty is business savvy and the combination of her HR background, management and coaching skills and experience in leadership challenges made me feel very comfortable going through my report with her and talking openly about the challenges and opportunities I experience at work.” Renate, Director at KLM
In 2017 Kitty Schaap guided me through a for me ‘eye-opening’ journey, being the Strengthscope leadership development program. This development gave me a lot of unexpected, yet very helpful, understandings on myself, which helped me to further mature myself as a professional (but also as a human being), certainly behavior wise I’ve learned a lot. Perchance one of the most imperative lessons learned has been the affect on other people, something that I was entirely oblivious off.
The part were also my colleagues shared their input was an thought-provoking mirror, very constructive and thanks to the professional coaching by Kitty, I have never experienced it as opposing or adverse. With the conclusion of the assessment in hand and the question in mind “now what?” Kitty has helped me greatly with the follow up being the one-on-one coaching sessions. What impressed me about Kitty is her ease and enormous bag of experiences, from where she turns many of her reflections into easy to grasp and relate to examples, that did trigger challenged me in self-reflections.
I have experienced the coaching by Kitty as genuine and honest, which made it easy to open and felt comfortable doing so (getting out of the comfort zone). I sincerely endorse Kitty to any organization or individual that is concerned in working with a highly committed and enthusiastic coach. P.A. Huis, General Manager
I am very happy to provide a reference for Kitty, with whom I worked closely for several years at Sotheby’s auction house, both in Amsterdam and London. Kitty was senior HR for Sotheby’s Netherlands, and also took on many projects during the 2009/10 downturn in the global art market. Kitty was key in transitioning the company from a large salesroom into a smaller business development team. During this process her project management and people management skills were a boon to the company. The new business unit required detailed role refining along with various leadership development elements, including change management, leadership behaviours, and feedback delivery.
Team building was also an important aspect of the work that Kitty undertook along with the executive team. Given the mix of London and Amsterdam staff involved in this transition Kitty delivered training sessions in both English and Dutch, and ran a variety of workshops for all staff, from new starters being inducted to the auction business to executive teams learning how to manage performance, deliver effective feedback and how to implement new in-house procedures and policies, including revised performance management processes. Kitty’s work took her well beyond the remit of Human Resources and she was a key member of my European executive team whilst I was Division Head, Sotheby’s Europe. R. Toone
Manager cultuursector
I have had the pleasure to work with Kitty Schaap in my role as Managing Director of Sotheby’s Netherlands from 2006 till 2011. During that period, Sotheby’s went through a huge period of expansion followed by a major restructure. Kitty was instrumental in the whole cycle and key to the successful delivery.
What I have seen is that, with her background in Learning and Development, HR and leadership, Kitty is a strong business partner for leaders and teams. She has gained extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of organizational development and this has proven to be of added value to the workshops and programs she delivered at Sotheby’s.
She has got an open and positive attitude, is highly professional, client focussed, and results driven. Flexible, empathetic and pragmatic, able to deal with people of all levels and different backgrounds. I would not hesitate to recommend Kitty to you. M. Grol, Managing Director
“Knowing my strengths brings a more positive focus to performance reviews and development plans.”
“I really enjoyed the coaching session and I believe the strengths approach brings out the best in me as a leader.”
“I have now really encountered the value of strengths and also the importance of recognizing –and appreciating, developing- the strengths of others. The StrengthscopeLeader assessment, the report and the coaching session gave me so many useful insights. Kitty’s experience as a HR professional in international organizations is in my opinion of real added value, when you are looking for a coach that can understand what kind of people development issues you’ll have to deal with as a manager each day. Now I know how to play to my strengths, be aware of strengths in overdrive and how my leadership behaviour is perceived by others, a real eye-opener.”
“I cannot recommend Kitty highly enough. She has been a rock throughout the emotional rollercoaster of reorganisation and at every stage she has proved herself to be a loyal, creative and dedicated member of the management team. She is very skilled both at dealing with the day to day challenges of Human Resources and the planning and implementation of new strategies.”
‘I would consider the ease with which she interfaces with different colleagues to be a significant personal strength. Importantly, she understands what it is to work for a US Company, the challenge of working in a regional office, and how essential it is to gain the confidence and respect of the headquarters operation. I think it is important for any future employer to understand Kitty’s ability to work independently and away from the headquarters, while maintaining an appropriate corporate position. She was responsible for implementing global HR (and other company) strategy locally – including recruitment, compensation, training, performance management and communications. Her role required involvement with the international HR team, both in the European headquarters and also with our global Headquarters. I would not hesitate to recommend her for a role which required international collaboration – she clearly demonstrates the ability to balance with ease the complex dual reporting lines into regional/global headquarters while representing the interests of her local management. Although her role focused on organisation development matters, Kitty has been responsible for handling key recruitments, general employee relations issues, health & safety and benefits – and so has demonstrated her ability to carry out a full range of HR duties.’ European HR Director, Sotheby’s
“Kitty was able to perform her job in a very autonomous, pragmatic and resourceful way. She had a sound understanding of the technical aspects of her role.” European HR Director, Merck Millipore
“Kitty played a key role in the rapid growth of the department, by coordinating contracts with contractor agencies, negotiating contractor rates and terms & conditions, providing onboarding services to new staff and by setting up and maintaining manpower information. Kitty is very customer focussed and has a good working relationship with the business managers.” Business Manager Shell
“Kitty is an excellent all round HR professional with in depth knowledge of employment law. She is skilled in enterprise organisational structure, people management and recruitment. Kitty is structured, calm and easy to work with. She has a practical approach to issue resolution. She is an essential member of the management team and is well respected. She would be an asset to any team.” CFO Sotheby’s
“Kitty is the most skilled HR professional I have had the pleasure to work with. She is an intelligent, result oriented HR Manager with high integrity and strong work ethic. Kitty partnered with colleagues at every level of the company to guide them effectively through performance management, employee relations, change management, recruiting etc. Her broad experience makes Kitty a unique asset to every (international) team. On top of that, she has a great sense of humour and is fun to work with!” HR Assistant/Recruiter Sotheby’s
360 degree feedback
Kitty is an excellent sounding board for a range of issues at all levels of an organisation. She brings sensitivity and practical solution. She is not afraid of conflict and is adept at managing difficult situations between others. She is very trustworthy and people feel confident discussing confidential matters with her. She can see things from multiple angles.
She is well researched and challenges expert external advisors as necessary -often exposing gaps in their work-. She has an investigative nature.
I worked with Kitty for a limited period of time but got to know her quickly as an open and honest person, with a hands-on approach towards her work, with an aim for quality and efficiency. The work situation at that time was certainly not optimal, but Kitty showed a healthy determination to try and improve the climate. Kitty has a positive outlook on life in general and wants to improve herself constantly through experience and education. This alone is a strength that will make a positive contribution to a diversity of working or social situations.
Kitty’s was such a great colleague to work with. She has demonstrated to deal with the most complicated hr issues in the most professional and human way. She’s not afraid to challenge ideas and often comes with very good (and better) solutions. Colleagues liked to work with her because she showed that she was very understanding with their situations and also helped to look forward.
“Although I am very familiar with my strengths, I had not previously considered them in terms of those that really drive and inspire me. I discovered a new and very important perspective on which of my strengths I need to use to maximise my energy and motivation.”
“Very positive, very well received indeed – I have used as part of a confidence building away day for staff to reflect upon how they can use their strengths to overcome some of their development areas and how they can use them to fulfil the forthcoming business objectives within their organisation”
“I found the Strengthscope Feedback process to be hugely beneficial and by far the best process I have seen for identififyiing my strengths and coaching me on how to get maximum benefit from them” Director, large retail organization
“The combination of coaching focused on building strengths has produced the most significant improvements that I have seen from a candidate on a management development programme”. Director of Individual Sales, RAC.
“At Aviva, our approach to talent management is all inclusive. We believe that each and every one of our employees has talent and that development plans should be tailored to individual needs. Strengthscope is proving to be an extremely effective way of enabling our future leaders to understand where their skills really lie and how to capitalise upon them”. Aviva’s Director of Group Management Development
“It is an excellent developmental tool – it starts with the positives of ‘now’ and can then be used to focus on future development, using present strengths to help this development. It also allowed employees to look outside their present role and consider future roles in relation to their strength profile”
Learning and Development Manager, Fisher Clinical Services
